  • On Air - Australian Aid Saving lives in Ethiopia.

Video from Save the Children Australia’s YouTube channel. In the little village of Kosseye, three groups huddle around small, battery-powered radios. It’s a misty morning in the mountains of Ethiopia.

Bisrat fills the air. Airing every Sunday morning for 24 weeks, Bisrat is an educational radio program that’s run by the Ethiopian government and Save the Children.

Providing entertaining educational material on child and maternal health issues for the entire region, it includes topics such as how to prepare for pregnancy, the dangers of child marriage and child trafficking.

One in every 17 Ethiopian children dies before their first birthday and one in every 11 dies before their fifth birthday. Only 14 percent of births are currently delivered by a skilled birth assistant.
